Demonstration of Faith

This incident happened during the time of exile of the Jews in Babylon.

The king at the time was Nebuchadnezzar.

King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of Gold and dedicated it

All important provincial officials were present at the ceremony.

The king then issued an edict commanding everybody to fall down and worship the image of Gold upon hearing the sound of musical instruments.

Punishment for anyone who disobeyed this order was that, he or she would be thrown into a big furnace or fire.

At this time, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were employees in the king’s palace.

They refused to worship the Golden image

They were reported to the king who was very angry with them.

The king made sure that the three Jews were bound and cast into the furnace after it was overheated seven times more. It was so hot that, it killed the men who cast the three Jews into it.

Nebuchadnezzar was surprised to see that instead of three, four men were walking about unscathed in the fire.

As a result, the king took 5 important actions:

He ordered their release

He praised God for the miracle

He issued a decree that anyone who would dare speak ill of the God of the three Jews shall suffer two punishments namely :

They shall be torn limb from limb

Their houses shall be destroyed

He made a declaration: There is no God who is able to deliver this way than the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

He promoted the three Jews.
